Blitzing Literacy in Secondary Schools
BLISS or "Blitzing Literacy in Secondary Schools," was devised as an explicit and systematic approach to teaching grammar and punctuation skills.
BLISS is a simple but effective whole school approach which can be implemented in all KLAs.
BLISS is actively marketed in classrooms, staffrooms, and the playground. There are posters in every classroom and around the school.
Each week, staff will wear a badge which corresponds to the weekly focus and head teachers will have a booklet with homework suggestions suitable to a variety of KLAs. Drama students regularly perform at the school assembly and thematic colours are used to spread the message.
2013 is the second year this highly successful program will run at Maclean High School.
