Capitals & Full Stops

CAPITALS

 

USE A CAPITAL LETTER:

  • at the beginning of a sentence.          eg. The battery ran out.
  • for proper names and titles.                eg. MrsWhite, Maclean High School.
  • for days, months and holidays.           eg. Monday, April, Easter.
  • for the first person "I".                         eg. I am important.
  • for main words in a heading or title.    eg. Les Misérables.

FULL STOPS

USE A FULL STOP:

  • at the end of a sentence              eg. Eathan is intelligent .
  • after some  abbreviations             eg. N.S.W.

USE AN EXCLAMATION MARK:

  • For short utterances                    eg. Oh dear!
  • For strong commands                  eg. Be quiet!
  • For expressions of strong feeling   eg. You are so mean!      

USE A QUESTION MARK:

  • At the end of a direct question.    eg. Will you be my Valentine?
  • After question words or phrases that stand alone.  eg. What?At  school?
