After the postponement of these trials set down for Port Macquarie all zone teams travelled to Lismore. The change of venue to Southern Cross Football Centre meant it would not matter if it rained and we could still get the games in and the North Coast team selected.
The day turned out to be quite warm despite the recent wet weather. First up Northern Rivers took on Far North Coast. Northern Rivers dominated from the start. About 7 minutes into the game, Northern Rivers had a corner, taken by Sarah Skinner and it was beautifully curled in and finished off by Brianna McFarlane. This was followed by Bella Ritchie scoring off a well-placed through ball from Sarah Skinner. Brianna McFarlane scored late in the second half for the girls to defeat Far North Coast zone 3-0.
The second game was against Mid North Coast zone. This was a tight affair with Northern Rivers winning 1-0.
It was a strong showing from the Northern Rivers team all day and this was evident in the numbers participating in the Possibles vs Probables. The following players from Maclean High were selected in the Possibles vs Probables:
Shanyn Hammond, Sarah Skinner, Brianna McFarlane, Eryn Hammond. Congratulations to Shanyn, Sarah and Brianna who gained selection and will now represent North Coast at the NSWCHS Championships in June in Sydney.
Thank you to Wayne Sutton, North Coast Convenor for organising and supporting everyone throughout the day.
