On Tuesday 7th March, twenty six students travelled to Kempsey to represent Northern Rivers Zone at the North Coast Swimming Trials. The weather throughout the day was very typical of Melbourne – cool, strong winds, rain and sunshine.

The Maclean students were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Once again the Knockout relay (12 x 50m freestyle relay) was the event that drew the most attention for the day. As only one team moves on to Sydney, it again proved to be a close one. All team members swam so hard with the lead changing regularly between Maclean and Woolgoolga. Our Year 12 boys, Ethan Johnson and Luke Plummer, were required to swim at their very best and came so close in the final two laps to gain the edge. Unfortunately, Woolgoolga High School touched first in the final strokes.

Congratulations to the following students who gained selection in the North Coast team to attend the NSWCHS Swimming Championships, 2nd – 4th April, Yasmin Bruggy – 16yr 200m freestyle and 100m Butterfly, Max Gilbert 16yrs 100m freestyle and Bronte Beresford 17-19yrs 50 m freestyle

The following relay teams also qualified for the NSW Championships: All Age Girls Relay (6 x 50m freestyle) – Halle Roberts, Carissa Miltiadou, Elisha Gavin, Taylor Johnson, Yasmin Bruggy and Bronte Beresford, 13 years girls 4 x 50m Freestyle relay Carissa Miltiadou, Natalia Nash, Ella Bowly and Anna Jenkins, 13 years boys 4x50m Freestyle relay Thomas Maxwell, Joshua Johnson, Royce McIntyre and Coby Tabor and 16 years girls 4 x 50m relay Alexandra Anderson- Bylos, Lara Snape, Josie Townsend and Yasmin Bruggy.

A special thank you to the parents who drove the students to Kempsey and cheered them on in all their races.
