Over the past few months, Clarence Valley Council and the Clarence Youth Action group asked 201 young people living in the Clarence Valley about the kind of community they want to live in. The Inaugural Inter-School Skate Competition was held at Yamba Skate Park on the 7th of December 2016, there were approximately 15-20 competitors who competed in the under 14s boys and girls and Open boys and girls competition. The University of Wollongong STEM roadshow is an outreach program which gives secondary school students the opportunity to experience an engaging introduction to STEM in its many forms. This excursion has been part of the Geography curriculum at Maclean High School since 2008, when a staff member used his annual leave to plan an educational and memorable excursion, to give students the experience of rural and remote Australia beyond the eastern seaboard. JACARANDA WOOD SHOW WINNER

Robbie Paul of Year 12 entered his Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber project into the open student section of the Jacaranda Wood Workers competition for Secondary Students, on Sunday 30 October. This is the first time Maclean High School has entered a student work to this competition. Robbie was successful in winning the open section. A number of the judges spoke to Industrial Arts teacher Mr Lange, saying Robbie's work was a standout piece. Congratulations to the 17 students who represented Maclean High in the Dragon Boat Races as part of the Jacaranda Festival. PBL, along with Year Advisors are inviting students to attend an end of year reward excursion. Students will be invited to attend a destination chosen by the year coordinator being held late this term. As part of the PBL expectations, students that have not displayed FRESH behaviours and have been on a Green or Orange Level monitoring book at any time during Term 4 will not be invited to attend the excursion. On Monday18th a great night of touch was played to contest the DEX Touch Trophies. For the first time in a few years it was nice to be able to play the DEX touch on the first night of organisation without postponement because of dangerous weather or unforeseen circumstances. In October 2016, all NSW public schools will receive a 2017 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. The Prizewinners Maclean skate comp Last year the Maclean High Skate Competition was only a dream for Hulieo Anderson, current student at Maclean High. On Friday 12 August, The Westpac Rescue Helicopter visited Maclean High School, landing on the eastern sports oval, and what a thrill it was for us. (See more photos in our photo gallery) Mareeba Aged Care Intergenerational Program Being part of the inaugural Intergenerational Program has proved rewarding for all involved. Throughout Term 2 sessions, the Year 10 Child Studies class have engaged in Trivia question time, prepared questions about the resident's life as a child and a craft session. North Coast Gymnastics Trials Congratulations to Year 7 Jacqui Samms who travelled to Lismore on 20th June to compete in the North Coast Gymnastics Championships. NORTH COAST CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 21 students travelled to Murwillumbah on Friday 17th June to compete in the North Coast Cross Country Championships. A 6.30am bus departure for some but what a great day for our athletes with 13 gaining selection (five in the top 6) to attend the NSWCHS Championships at Eastern Creek Friday 22nd July and two athletes taking the gold medal. Maclean High School Cross Country Championships This year we trialled the cross country carnival on the last day of Term 1. On the 6/4/16 a band of new footballers to Maclean High played Macauley College in the first round of the state knockout. The girls were under pressure right from the start and conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes. If it wasn't for the bravery and agility of Erin Shugg in goals, it could've been a lot more. At half time it was 3 – 0 and the girls had resolved to defend harder and work more for each other. This year's Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, 8th April 2016. Students will require school books and equipment for Periods 1 to 4 before they participate in their age group race. The cross country course starts and finishes at Maclean High School oval with the course run within the areas of the school and the Maclean Showground. Staff on checkpoints will help direct students through the course. Rhonda Pitson, Beris Duroux and Robert Perl Travelled to Sydney on the 22nd March to accept the Nanga Mia award for Maclean High School for "Outstanding commitment to increasing knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal histories, culture and experiences of Aboriginal people."
