CHS Round 3 Under 14's

Maclean High School played Richmond River High School at Maclean Showground on Monday 1stJune in the third round of the CHS Buckley Shield Competition.

Maclean High had warmed up well and were focused on playing their best footy in front of a small, yet vocal home crowd.

The score board was set alight after only 90 seconds, with Julian Torrens scoring under the posts. Julian converted his try to take Maclean High to an early lead of 6 points to 0.

Mason Horton scored the next try and Julian Torrens kicked the conversion. Maclean High 12 – Richmond River 0.

Kai Thomsen scored in the corner after some big runs from the forward pack. Julian Torrens missed the conversion. Maclean High 16 – Richmond River 0.

Julian Torrens scored an amazing runaway try some two minutes later. He ran over 80 metres, dodging, palming, evading and busting through tackles. Julian kicked the conversion. Maclean High 22 – Richmond River 0.

Mason Horton scored his second try of the game after a huge 90 metre blockbusting run from Elijah Winitana. Julian Torrens missed the conversion. Maclean High 26 – Richmond River 0.

The half time break was called and Maclean High looked very comfortable. Coach Mr White reminded the players to keep the intensity up and start practising the things they do in training at school sport on Wednesdays.

With seven reserves on the bench, there were plenty of changes made throughout the game, especially after the half time break.

Cooper Many was playing very solidly and deserved his try under the posts. Julian Torrens kicked the conversion. Maclean High 32 – Richmond River 0.

Ethan Foster scored a well-deserved try after barging over the line. Julian Torrens kicked the conversion. Maclean High 38 – Richmond River 0.

Maclean High School have run out winners in round 3 of the CHS Buckley Shield Competition.  The next game will decide the Far North Coast Champions. At the time of writing, the opposition is yet to be determined. Man of the match from Round 3 was awarded to Julian Torrens.  Well done to all the team, Maclean High School is proud of you all!

CHS Round 3 Open Boys University Shield

Maclean High School played Kyogle High in the third round of the University Shield at Maclean Showground on Monday 1stJune.

Zac Clarke-Nagle started the scoring after a scrum win near the line. Jacob Cameron-Clarke kicked the conversion. Maclean High 6 – Kyogle High 0.

Zac Clarke-Nagle wanted more points and soon after his first try he scored again, this time running over 40 metres down the sideline. Jacob Cameron-Clarke could not convert from wide out. Maclean High 10 – Kyogle High 0.

Michael Carr scored under the post in the 14thminute. This was after a brilliant 70 metre run by Vincent Williams, where he dodged, ducked and fended off all opposition. Zac Clarke-Nagle kicked the conversion. Maclean High 16 – Kyogle High 0.

Vincent Williams scored some 9 minutes later. Zac Clarke-Nagle kicked the goal. Maclean High had now opened up a handy lead of 22 points to Kyogle 0.

Just seconds out from halftime, Daine Lauire scored a marvellous solo try, using his magic to weave through the opposition. Zac Clarke-Nagle kicked the conversion. The half time score was Maclean High 28 – Kyogle 0.

The talk at halftime was positive from Maclean, they wanted to continue to punish the opposition by scoring more points on them. It was also a good chance to do some set plays in readiness for the next round should they hold on and win.

Charles Charlton-Walker scored some three minutes after the half time break after a blockbusting run through the tired defense. Zac Clarke-Nagle kicked the conversion. Maclean High 34 – Kyogle 0.

Zac Clarke-Nagle scored his third try of the game scorching over the turf in the corner. Jacob Cameron-Clarke missed the conversion. Maclean High 38 – Kyogle 0.

Kyogle High to their credit never gave up and scored a brilliant try. The conversion was unsuccessful. Maclean High 38 – Kyogle 4.

Nicholas Plummer scored six minutes later after playing the whole game. Jacob Cameron-Clarke missed the conversion. Maclean High 42 – Kyogle 4.

The final try of the day was scored by Brodie Williams. Brodie deserved this try after some great hit ups and tackling throughout the game. Kyron Heron was given the kicking honours in front of the posts. He kicked it and Maclean High had now beaten Kyogle High 48 to 4.

The next round will determine the Far North Coast Champions. Maclean High School will play the winner of Ballina High or Kingscliff High.  Man of the match for round 3 was awarded to Vincent Williams closely followed by Zac Clark-Nagle.  Well Done Maclean High!
