Trish Douglas Memorial Shield

Maclean High School girls played in the first stage of the Trish Douglas Memorial Shield at Mckittrick Park on Tuesday 28thApril. Three games were played on the day against South Grafton and Grafton A and Grafton B.

The opening game Maclean High were very impressive, winning four tries to nil against Grafton B. Try scorers in that game were Charlotte Williams, Mekeely Heron and Judy Vesper (two tries).

The second game was against hot favourites South Grafton. In a physical and tough game, Maclean High won scoring five tries to three. Try scorers included Judy Vesper, Dolly Daley, Mekeely Heron, Charlotte Williams and Jessica Gumb.

The final game against Grafton A was to decide the winner of the day. Maclean High never looked like losing the game winning eight tries to nil. Judy Vesper and Charlotte Williams scored two tries each, Jessica Gumb scored one while Mekeely Heron was unstoppable scoring three tries.

The Maclean High Team now goes on to play the winner of the Far North Coast. It will be played next Tuesday 5thMay at Woodlawn College to decide the inaugural winner of the Trish Douglas Memorial Shield.
