The 2015 NSW All Schools Golf Championships were held in the Blue Mountains on the 28th and 29th of April. Maclean High School had two representatives: Mackenzie Wright and Reilly Wunderlich. Mackenzie competed in the Open Division and Reilly competed in the Year 9 and under-age group.

    Mackenzie Wright and Reilly Wunderlich

Mackenzie battled cold and very wet conditions at Blackheath Golf Club to shoot a respectable 82 on Day 1, followed by the same score on Day 2 at Wentworth Falls Golf Club. He represented the school in his usual respectful manner, even when the conditions and his own putting tested him. His total score of 164 placed him 56th in the state. Mackenzie has 8 weeks to prepare now for the NSW CHS teams event at Liverpool in June, where he will represent North Coast.

      Reilly celebrates his amazing win

Reilly has had the golfing week of his life. He managed a Day 1 score of 85 (65net) at Wentworth Falls Golf Club and 87 (67nett) on Day 2 at Blackheath Golf Club. His net score of 132 (-7) saw him crowned the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation net winner. This is a huge victory for Reilly, as the title comes with an all expenses paid golfing trip to New Zealand. In January, 2016, he will travel over the ditch and represent JNJGF vs New Zealand in an international golfing series. The tour also includes educational cultural tours of New Zealand. Reilly put in an incredible effort for a relatively new golfer who had to fight off the nerves on Day 2 to hold onto his overnight lead - not an easy task in any round, let alone when a prize of this magnitude is on offer.

Congratulations to both students on their efforts and a special thanks to their parents, who made the massive effort to get the boys there to compete. Maclean High School should be proud of their efforts and excited about our prospects for the tournament in 2016.
