Open Girl's Netball

NB

The Open Girls Netball team travelled to Casino for the first three rounds of the state knockout and to trial for the Northern Rivers Zone team. It was an extremely hot day which took a toll on all teams.

Our first game was against Evans River and in the cooler part of the day the Maclean side convincingly defeated their opposition 33 - 10. After a 15-minute break, the Maclean side came out strong to defeat Kyogle 46 - 5.

With these two wins Maclean progressed to the Zone final against Alstonville. This team had definitely dominated the day with their consistent shooting skills and strong defence. The opening quarter saw this strength shine and, despite a fantastic display of skills from the Maclean side, Alstonville took the early lead. The next two quarters were evenly matched, but Maclean could not get back the early lead Alstonville had set up. In the final quarter, both teams struggled in extremely hot conditions - at least 35 degrees. Minimal goals were scored and both teams were pleased to see the end of the game. Unfortunately, the early lead meant Alstonville got the honours.

Zone Trials followed and a number of our students were required to continue to play for selections. After a lengthy trial, Teagan McFarlane, Piper Chard and Maddie Smith were selected for the Northern Rivers Zone Team. Congratulations.

Thank you to the whole team for the tremendous effort in all games; you all played well. Well done. A big thank you To Mrs McFarlane, Mrs Bliss and Mrs Johnston for providing transport and support for the girls, we appreciate your time and effort. Lastly, another big ‘thank you' to Ali Cross. Ali refereed for our team all day, as well as participating in the trial selection process.
