Maclean HS Vs Kyogle HS

On Friday 13thMarch the Open Boys Football Team played their first round match against Kyogle High School at Wherrett Park in Maclean. Having entered the match with expectations of a repeat of last year's thrashing of Kyogle, it became apparent that this year was going to be no walkover. It was a very physical game, with Kyogle using their significant size advantage in some bruising challenges and encounters.

As the game moved on and the poise on the ball of Maclean HS players increased, numerous chances were created, and eventually, thanks to a scything entry into the penalty area from Evan Lloyd, the first goal came. Evan's shot hit the crossbar and most likely crossed the line, but, to be sure, it was finished off with a header by a teammate.

The second half brought much similar play to the late stages of the first half, and with one of many entries into the penalty area, a penalty was awarded after a clear push in the back after a great centring ball. Harry Menzies stepped up in his first match back after a serious knee injury, and calmly slotted the ball low to the goal keeper's left.

The final game score was 2 – 0, and credit must be paid to Jarred Moran, who, despite a reported lack of training, was excellent in defence, reading any dangerous attacking Kyogle raids with a cool and calm head, and organising those around him to do the same.

Next game will be against the winners of the Kadina HS – Richmond River HS clash.
