U14 Buckley Shield (Final 16)
Maclean High School hosted Singleton High School in the final 16 teams in the Buckley Shield Competition at Maclean Showground on Tuesday 21stJuly.
Singleton High were first to score in the 4thminute. They kicked the conversion to lead 6 points to 0.
Seven minutes later Singleton High scored and they also kicked the conversion. Singleton High 12 – Maclean High 0.
Singleton High scored soon after, however missed the conversion. Singleton High 16 – Maclean High 0. This was the score going into half time.
Maclean High had several players running on empty and getting injuries. The talk at half time was positive and all players keen to get back out on the field.
Singleton High started the second half the way they finished the first half with a try. The try was converted and Singleton High was now leading 22 points to 0.
Three minutes later, Singleton High scored again and converted the kick. Singleton High 28 – Maclean High 0.
Maclean High never gace up and almost scored several times in the next ten minutes. Singleton scored again, this time against the run of play. The kick was converted. Singleton High 34 – Maclean High 0. This was the final score.
Barney Anderson was outstanding for Maclean High, he looked very dangerous with the ball and tackled players twice his size with ease. Glenn Schembri and Mason Horton also played well in the beaten side. Well done to all our under 14 squad who tried hard throughout the year.
